Developed for early-stage entrepreneurs and career-changers, the Startup Basics Program supplies participants with the tools and resources needed to accelerate their idea to the next stage. Startup Basics is a classroom style program split into distinct topics and sessions are presented by Accelerate Okanagan Staff, Executive-in-Residence Mentors, Partners, and Alumni.

“Everyone has ideas but it is putting these ideas to work that is the challenge.” says Kathy McKay, program participant. ”The Startup Basics sessions not only helped my partner and I flesh out ideas by outlining tools for research and development but left us feeling confident that we could really do it”.

Each session is designed to educate the entrepreneur on the fundamentals needed to transform an idea into a startup. Hearing from local startup founders about the lessons that they’ve learned along their journey can be incredibly valuable.

“Each session has something valuable and the community of people I was connected with is amazing,” says Sandra Ortega, program participant. “People I only just met are trying to help me— just ready to pitch in.

Anybody looking to learn more about business and startup fundamentals is a great fit for this programs. The course is most beneficial for those in the early stages who likely have an idea and are considering building a company.

“For me, Startup Basics was an incredible opportunity to really connect with my community.” Sandra continues. “The people, the entrepreneurs, the community… you can’t get that on the internet.”

The fall session of Startup Basics is a part of the Discovery Foundation TEP and is hosted in collaboration with Westbank First Nation. This was the first time Accelerate Okanagan and Westbank First Nation have collaborated to offer programming and the early results are promising. Get the full story here
