Let’s face it, it’s not easy to take an idea and turn it into reality. Being an entrepreneur is hard because it’s all on you! Success is on you. Results are on you. Making the call is on you. Worst of all, doing the things you don’t like to do… also on you.

The truth is that being an entrepreneur will test you in ways you didn’t think possible but we want you to pursue it anyway. We also want you to know, you’re not alone. There are a ton of support services and funding opportunities available to entrepreneurs in the Okanagan looking to take the plunge.

There are some incredible funding opportunities and resources available for female entrepreneurs. Here is a snapshot of some of our favourites.

  1. Startup Canada Women Founders Fund was developed in partnership with Startup Canada and Evolocity Financial Group. The fund provides micro-grants for female entrepreneurs and female-led STEM companies in Canada.

Between $1,000-$5,000 in grant money is available to support business operations and growth. On top of the cash, other perks include:

  • VIP pass for Startup Canada Day

2. Women’s Enterprise Centre provide mentorship programs designed to help you grow your business. This Okanagan-based organization also offers loans up to $150,000 for market-ready startups, business expansion projects, and business purchases. Women’s Enterprise Centre can also support with:

  • Business advising and mentorship

  • Valuable events and networking

  • Skills Training

3. The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has a Capital Women in Technology Fund designed to foster the creation of the next generation of millionaire Canadian women technology entrepreneurs. To reach this vision, BDC has dedicated $200 million in investment funds for female-led tech companies. This is currently the world’s largest venture capital fund dedicated solely to investing in tech companies led by women. BDC also has many other funds including:
