OKGNworks is a membership-based coworking space located on the second floor of the Innovation Centre. The shared space is powered by Accelerate Okanagan and designed to support early-stage companies and budding entrepreneurs.

This evolving community of brave-hearted, rule-breakers and innovators are building companies from the ground up and shaping the future of #OKGNtech. This column is a chance for you to meet some of these game-changing hustlers and learn a little more about what they’re up to.

I recently caught up with Charity Gerbrandt, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Experience at Carebook to learn more about who they are and what they are all about.

WHAT. Carebook is an app that helps people stay healthy and keep their health records organized while working to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life. The Carebook app provides tools and services to help individuals reduce the risk of chronic diseases that are, for the most, totally preventable.

Carebook is a powerful online health management tool, providing a secure place to store important health information for individuals and families. Their system connects the dots between lifestyle habits and risks for chronic diseases; highlighting lifestyle changes that will have the most impact on improving overall health and well-being.

WHO. There are 3 team members working out of OKGNworks full-time. All 3 are passionate about making an impact on people’s lives by reducing the risk of chronic diseases. They are driven by exploration and commitment to quality ideals as well as sharing the same values—a passion and commitment to Carebook’s vision. Charity says that their team loves the entrepreneurial lifestyle because it gives you the freedom and flexibility to THINK.

WHERE. Carebook’s primary office is located in Montreal. For the three employees who are located here in Kelowna, Charity says that their team chose to work in the shared spaced because it offers everything they need to be focused on their individual work as well as collaborative work with their team in Montreal.

It’s great to work with like-minded people in different industries who share a passion for innovation and creativity. Also, the meeting rooms and the option to work rooftop is pretty cool says Charity.

When asked what her favourite thing about the shared space was, Charity said “For sure the access to crazy smart and wonderful people tops the list. But proximity to great spaces to walk and lunch doesn’t hurt. Since we collaborate with a team across the country, we really love the meeting rooms here.”
