Meet Lisa. Lisa Hewitt is a Senior Manager with Aptean Software. When Lisa isn’t leading and coaching her team at Aptean you can find her hiking Knox Mountain, touring wineries, or hanging out with friends and family. [Editor’s note: Basically, doing the Okanagan right]. We recently caught up with Lisa to learn more about her role at Aptean and what she loves about #OKGNtech.
Who inspires you?
”I don’t have to look very far for inspiration at Aptean, I love that I work for a big software company that’s led by two inspiring females. Our CEO Kim Eaton and CTO Jenny Peng are both incredible leaders who serve as excellent role models for everyone on our team.” #thefutureisfemale #movethedial
How would you describe your working style?
“In terms of working style, I’m not usually the loudest voice in the room. I prefer to listen to what others have to say and really take the time to process that. My process is really about thoughtful interactions and quiet determination”.
Can you tell us about how you got to where you are today?
“I originally studied software development and worked as a developer for several years, later I went to the Okanagan College and did their BBA program. The combination of these two programs gave me that blend of technology and business.”
Can you tell us about your role at Aptean and what you enjoy about it?
”My job is to improve software development practices. To do that, I focus on people and how we can collaborate to make things more creative and more efficient. Added bonus? I get to meet and work with lots of really cool and really smart people.”
What do you love about #OKGNtech?
“The thing that impresses me about #OKGNtech is the number of startups that are here and all the cool things that they are doing. There are so many young entrepreneurs that are really finding success and making a difference and growing these companies into something that is no longer just a small startup – but serious software development companies.”
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
”I grew up in Newfoundland – I still have a lot of love for the place – the people, the music, the scenery. Not a lot of people know that I was born and raised there.” #YESby #bestkind
What’s a piece of advice you can share with us?
“I think it is so important to embrace change. Change is not a risk, change is reality. The more equipt we are to roll with it and manage the change as it happens, the less disruptive or shocking it is.”
