We’re Summit bound! Accelerate Okanagan is thrilled to announce that applications are open for the 6th annual Okanagan Angel Summit.
The Okanagan Angel Summit is an 8-week pitch program that guides Okanagan-based investors and Western Canadian startups through the capital-raising process. With multiple training sessions and pitch events for angels and entrepreneurs alike, the Summit has proven to be extremely valuable to new investors who want to learn how to be an angel investor and startups that need access to connections, expertise, and growth capital.
The Okanagan Angel Summit takes place from April 2nd to May 23rd and concludes with a public grand finale at the Kelowna Innovation Centre, where one startup will be awarded an investment of up to $200,000. Over the 8-weeks, accredited investors participating in the 2024 fund will learn how to vet companies, provide feedback, and perform due diligence.
The Summit also allows startups to connect with a network of active investors, learn alongside other entrepreneurs raising capital, and have a chance at a $200,000 investment. This training and exposure through the Summit is invaluable for those who want to access growth capital, secure investments, and grow their network. Early bird application fees for the summit start at $75 until March 8th, with an additional $200 program fee if your company is selected for the Top 24 quarter-finals pitch events. Applications are open now and will close March 24th.
The Summit Process
APPLICATIONS & REVIEWS
Companies complete the application form and have a chance to meet with an investor prior to the formal review. Reviews are conducted on every company that applies and are highly valuable for submitting a strong application.
QUARTER-FINALISTS SELECTED
24 companies are chosen to move forward to the pitch events.. However, all companies that have applied will receive training for investment readiness and pitch deck development.
TOP 24 PITCH TO INVESTORS
The quarter-finalists deliver 3-minute pitches to investors, followed by an opportunity for networking conversations between entrepreneurs and investors. Quarter-finalists will also receive due diligence training.
SEMI-FINALISTS SELECTED
12 companies will be chosen to move to the semi-finals where they will meet with investors for due diligence, and receive pitch practice and feedback.
TOP 12 PITCH TO INVESTORS
The semi-finalists deliver 10-minute pitches to investors, followed by an opportunity for networking conversations between entrepreneurs and investors.
FINALISTS SELECTED
Investors deliberate and narrow the number of participants down to the top finalists.
DUE DILIGENCE PROCESS
Companies and investors undergo the due diligence process, diving deep into the structure and viability of the finalists.
THE GRAND FINALE
The community is invited to a grand finale to watch the final companies provide their last 5-minute pitch to investors. Investors do their final deliberation and decide which company will take home an investment of up to $200K.
Whether you are new to angel investing or experienced in venture capital, the Summit will offer you a collaborative and fun approach to investing. It teaches you to invest as a group, leverage the expertise in the room, and share due diligence.
Since it’s inception in 2019, this Summit has supported over 200 startups, trained 98 accredited investors, and directly invested $805,000. We have no doubt that this year’s summit will also have a significant impact on the startup ecosystem and look forward to seeing the progress in the year to come.
