POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Senior Information Systems manager is the lead role in our technology and information systems department. Primary responsibilities include both local and online network, server, and computer systems, information security, communications systems support, technical and software support and oversight of the company’s software development processes.

Candidates should have at least five years and preferably 10 or more years experience in a management or leadership role within an established and busy IT department. The Senior IS Manager is familiar with modern and changing concepts, practices, and procedures, and a wide degree of creativity and latitude are expected. The Senior IS Manager will use technology and software, including software development, to create opportunities and lead the company through technological change while maintaining reliable, secure systems with minimal downtime and disruptions. The IS Manager reports to the executive team through the Vice-President of Finance.

REPONSIBILITIES AND TECHNOLOGIES:

Responsibilities

  • Research new systems and networks and consider their value on the organization
  • Implement technology, directing the work of staff, analysts, developers, support specialist and other computer-related workers
  • Evaluate user needs and system functionality ensuring that the technology infrastructure meets the needs of the organization
  • Plan, develop and implement the IT budget and obtain competitive prices from suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness
  • Organize the purchase of hardware and software
  • Schedule upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems
  • Guarantee the smooth running of all IT systems, networks, servers, email provision and including backup, security and security systems
  • Ensure the user and organization in general adheres to software licensing laws
  • Provide a secure network environment for all remote users and systems
  • Secure data from internal and external attack
  • Offer users appropriate support and advice
  • Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
  • Recruit, train, mentor and motivate staff as required to improve maximum performance
  • Improving efficiency and effectiveness of staff and the department in general
  • Keep up to date with the latest technologies, conventions and standards
  • Contribute to organizational policy regarding quality standards and strategic planning
  • Support mobile workers including laptops, tablets and mobile phones
  • Attend meetings relevant to the position requirements

Software Development

  • Provide oversight of the software development process including working with product managers to ensure the development of quality products in a timely manner
  • Familiar with development concepts and techniques
  • Instruct and advise on appropriate programming procedures
  • Implement and maintain QA procedures
  • Lead development team through future technological changes
  • Familiar or able to work with developers given the following technologies
    • PHP, JavaScript, Yii 1.1, Yii 2, Symfony and CakePHP
    • MySQL, NFS and local file storage integrations
    • APILayer, SMS and Payment Portal services
    • Multiple code libraries including jQuery, Spout, PHPExcel, FPDF, FPDI, and PHP-EWS
  • Familiarity with mobile application development

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and experience

  • Five years of experience in an IT or IS role
  • Relevant University or College degree
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree an asset
  • Bondable

Skills and competences

  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Deadline and detail oriented
  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
  • Excellent computer literacy including Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work pro-actively and effectively with a team, providing support, and driving efficiency and effectiveness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to obtain and relay accurate information
  • Organization to work effectively
