We’re on a mission to build a simple, portable, and functional web application that services the trades industries in Canada and beyond.  We understand that tradesmen and women are busy, on-the-go, and trying to keep track of a lot of things simultaneously including other team members, jobs, customers, invoicing and hours.


Who You Are:

To support our rapid growth, we are looking for a Principal software engineer with expertise in software architectures and design principles, database management, DevOps,  as well as a familiarity with security and Site Reliability Engineering.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who is an effective oral and written communicator, driven and excited about the positive impact technology can have on small business.  You want to make a difference and an influence beyond the screen and keyboard.

This is a remote first opportunity and we are looking for candidates anywhere in Canada / USA.


Let’s give you a purpose:

You’ll advise, provide clarification, and guide the CEO with the full scope of IT related decisions and future strategy for the Tradesflow Application.

You will also:

  • Participate in risk assessments and mitigating activities
  • Organize and participate in technical audits and ensure the implementation of the recommendations
  • Coordinate with the QA to develop test cases, procedures, and plans
  • Mentor and coach fellow team members
  • Aid the technical team in:
    • Defining technical standards for the Tradesflow Application
    • Creating a successful technical team culture
    • Fabricating an automated software CI/CD pipeline to reinforce a successful iterative software development process
    • Appreciating the need for securing and instrumenting the application
  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
  • Investigate and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage.
  • Help departments use technology profitably
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Advise and potentially help with instrumentation of the application and infrastructure
  • Build quality assurance and data protection processes
  • Monitor KPIs and IT budgets (financial and development) to ensure the IT systems are cost effective



What you’ll bring along:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or extensive practical experience with software development
  • 7+ years of professional experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment such as a startup or rapidly growing company
  • Deep understanding and familiarity with functional programming languages (we use Ruby and Python)
  • 4+ years of experience in the cloud (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with relational databases (we use Postgres)
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability


Technology Experience

  • Ruby / Python / Docker or containerd / Helm / Kubernetes
  • Javascript and GUI frameworks, Ansible, or Terraform
  • AWS, GCP or Azure
  • SQL
  • Agile/Scrum development methodology
