As the company has expanded, our human resources and office administration workload has grown significantly and this has enabled us to create the new role of People and Culture Coordinator / Office Administrator.

Position Overview:

You will report directly to the senior management team and work closely with other members of the leadership team to take-on the human resources and office administration tasks they are currently supporting.

As the People and Culture Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of a positive and engaging work environment. You will ensure rigorous compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations and help the company implement its core values (e.g. being ethical, honest, providing a nurturing and fulfilling workplace). You will also manage our quarterly appraisal process and help managers onboard new employees through our multi-step probation process. And, of course, be the go to person for all matters concerning HR policies and procedures.

As Office Administrator you will spend a small amount of your time (less than 25%) managing and coordinating a range of office management and coordination tasks (e.g. updating electronic information boards, ordering office supplies, organizing third-party contractors, etc.). This aspect of the role is expected to grow and eventually be handed-off to a full-time office administrator. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that promote a positive, healthy work environment and comply with employment laws and regulations.
  • Be the key contact for employee inquiries about company HR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate employee appraisals and training.
  • Accurately manage confidential employee records.
  • Help administer employee benefits and related inquiries.
  • Welcome new hires and help them progress smoothly through our 3-month on-boarding process.
  • Work closely with our in-house accounting and bookkeeping team on overlapping HR tasks.
  • Help organize company social events and team-building activities.
  • Maintain electronic information boards to keep employees informed about important events and activities.
  • Perform office management and administration activities (overseeing office cleaning, office maintenance & improvements, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Degree in or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years previous experience in human resources or a closely related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with employees from diverse cultural backgrounds and disparate skill sets.
  • Pragmatic and able to make appropriate judgment calls in the interest of both employees and the company.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of BC employment laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Google or Microsoft Office tools.
  • A positive attitude, with a genuine passion for helping others.
