Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council has been entrusted with the mandate to transform the justice system to create better outcomes for Indigenous people through the implementation of the BC First Nations Justice Strategy.

Position Summary: 

The Information Technology (IT) Manager is responsible for and will oversee The BC First Nations Justice Council’s (BCFNJC) existing IT function and the implementation of new IT systems and policies. The IT Manager will research, develop, and implement strategic solutions ensuring IT systems are effective and functioning within the limits of budget, time, and required specifications across the organization and in our existing and future Indigenous Justice Centres across the province.

As the IT Manager, you have an expert level and unparalleled understanding of the roles both hardware and software and their function across various locations both physical and remote. Exceptional problem solving and communication skills ensuring that technical improvements and issues are escalated, resolved and communicated in a timely and effective manner.

Our workforce and client base is diverse and have wide variations in their knowledge of IT functions. You will need to exhibit patience and have a fundamental understanding of the experiences of Indigenous people and their history in our province, and how those experiences shape our workplace.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage IT function
  • Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of organizational goals set by the BC First Nations Justice Council Leadership Team
  • Regularly evaluate IT policies and systems against these organizational goals for continuous improvement
  • Analyze the business requirements of all functions and entities within and across the BCFNJC to determine their technology needs in areas of regular maintenance, upgrades, configurations or new systems and report these to the Leadership Team
  • Inspect and monitor for the effective use of IT equipment, services, service level agreements, software, and licensing to ensure function and efficiency
  • Plan and lead security risk mitigation and data protection
  • Manage relationships with hosted service suppliers and other IT vendors
  • Manage effective utilization of all computer hardware, software, and networks
  • Manage and provide regular hardware and software maintenance
  • Monitor capacity and performance of all the Council’s systems
  • Provide technical support to Council IT users
  • Liaise with Strategic IT Consultant
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to internal IT
  • Develop and control budget, allocation, and report on expenditures
  • Regular travel to our various locations will be required
  • Lead infrastructure builds in new facilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Work Experience:

  • A diploma or degree in computer science, management information systems and/or a combination of related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in IT, operations, management in a multi-office and remote environments
  • Experience creating and implementing IT policies and systems that will meet objectives
  • Experience managing and leading large, complex projects, various diverse infrastructures, and creating robust systems that work natively or in tandem across various technologies and impact areas of operations
  • Knowledge of bringing legacy IT operations into cloud-based solutions
  • Experience in controlling an information technology budget
  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications, and communicating
  • Sound understanding of both hardware and software, networking etc.
  • Advanced, current, and future IT industry knowledge
  • Cyber security knowledge, risk management, and excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Expert organization, collaborative management, and an excellent leadership
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 

Technical knowledge of the following is desirable: 

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) accreditation would be beneficial
  • Microsoft Office 365, Teams Expert, Sharepoint Certified
  • WordPress hosting, DNS and domain management, database version control
  • Understanding of various CRM systems, management, and implementation
  • Case management and workflow systems
  • Adobe Creative Suite and Applications
  • Document distribution and internal information management
  • Knowledgebase management
  • Training and facilitation for technical needs across various platforms
  • Docusign
  • Quickbooks
  • VoIP administration, management, and support
