Meet Scott. Scott Bauer is the Marketing Director at Navigator Multimedia. When Scott isn’t at work, you can find him on his road bike, at a yoga studio, or listening to a Joe Rogan Podcast. We recently caught up with Scott to learn more about his role at Navigator Multimedia and his passion for road biking.

Where do you work?

“I work at Navigator Multimedia. Navigator is one of the longest standing agencies here in Kelowna, starting in my Dad’s basement. My Dad was building sites before WordPress was even a thing. The agency has pivoted quite a bit since then and now we are more of a marketing house.”

What do you enjoy about your role?

“Marketing is as complex or as easy as you make it out to be. It’s an interesting mix of creative and data in the new digital world. The challenge of trying to solve marketing problems for an array of different businesses is something that never gets boring. There is failure and there are hard times, but when you win it’s just like a drug.”

Tell us about your experience at Okanagan College.

“I got my Marketing Degree at Okanagan College and looking back on it I realize that they did a great job of covering the spectrum. In your first two years, you get to learn all the different parts of business. When I started at OC I wasn’t like “I am going to be a Marketer”, but it sure caught my interest.”

Can you explain how you came up with your Instagram handle? (@itsgotpower)

“One time I was at my friends house and someone was talking about a boat in the other room and they were saying something like “Oh this boat, it’s got power” and I thought they were talking to me and then it occurred to me what had happened, and I was like “Oh my god, that’s kind of cool!” It’s got power sounds like it’s Scott Bauer.”

What do you enjoy most about road biking?

“When your actually road biking it’s really not that fun. You’re uncomfortable. You’re on this seat that sucks. You’re all hunched over on top of the handlebars, riding for long periods of time staring at 10 feet of road in front of you trying to not get hit by cars. But I kind of enjoy the struggle because you really feel like you’ve accomplished something”

[Editor’s Note: Scott just finished riding a 160km Grandfondo. More proof that he’s got the power]

Do you have any advice to share?

“I like signing up for things that at the time might not seem like something I really want to do. It puts a lot more intention behind every time you go to the gym, every time you get on the bike, every time you’re at work. There’s just so much more meaning behind your actions.” #dontstop #getitgetit

“There is diminishing returns on somebody being to overcalculated with their decision-making process. Ideas are great but execution is everything. I think that how you go about doing things to solve a problem or start your business, carries far more weight than the idea itself. So execute – just do it.”

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

“I am a big broccoli sprout advocate! I grow my own broccoli sprouts in a mason jar at home and freeze them. Broccoli Sprouts have the highest per gram of sulforaphane, which is really good for you. I usually blend them in a smoothie. I actually learned all this all from a Joe Rogan podcast.”

[Editor’s Note: Sulforaphane is a molecule known for its ability to kill off cancer cells.]
